Resistance

a negative mental force. It comes from within you and tries to prevent you from realizing your true potential. It’s this feeling that holds you back when you sit down to write a campaign or start your side hustle. Resistance can appear when you break your routine and do something new to improve your life and fulfill your potential.

🫂
Resistance includes many feelings and states, such as laziness, self-doubt, perfectionism, fear of failure, and procrastination. But feeling resistance is good. It means you care.

Most people don't feel resistance before going to the supermarket or watching TV. They only feel it when they’re doing something they’re passionate about and means a lot to them. Resistance is a good sign that you’re moving in the right direction.

Resistance is universal. Even the greatest artists and creators feel it

Don't blame yourself for being lazy or procrastinating. Everyone has felt it at some point, and although it often gets better with time, it never completely goes away, no matter how good or successful you become. So don’t wish resistance away; instead, fight it.

How to fight resistance:

  • Always keep learning. Stay curious about your craft. Constantly learning and improving makes you stronger against self-doubt.
  • Know your limitations. You have to work hard to succeed. Though, constantly overworking will eventually burn you out. Learn how to ask for help and learn from those who have done it before. Delegate some of your work to others. You can’t always do everything.
  • Have a structure. When you develop a clear schedule and self-discipline, and you work in a neat environment, it gets easier to combat resistance.
  • Trust your muse; the opposite of resistance. It isn’t always there for you, and it’s impossible to be in a state of flow all the time. But you should remember that if you show up every day, at some point, your muse will appear and charge you with its strong creative force.
  • Ignore hierarchies. Most people define themselves according to social hierarchies, like the corporate ladder, age, education, or follower count on social media. Don't do it. Those hierarchies will keep you stuck in the same place. If you let go of hierarchies, you can discover new possibilities. Stick to your own vision and beliefs instead of satisfying others. When you’re creating work that you’re proud of, others will like it too.For example: “I can’t start a company; I’m only 18”
  • Commit to a specific field. Being curious about many things is good. But at some point, you can't do it all. You must have one major territory in which you want to excel. If what you’re doing makes you feel good almost every time, and you can see an unlimited world of possibilities to explore within it, it’s probably your territory. Keep doing it and claim your success through persistence, hard work, and dedication.
